NYFORS new member of Acreo Fiber Optic Center
Acreo Fiber Optic Center is an industry-institute-academia competence center with a focus on fiber optic technologies, funded by the The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA), The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) and The Knowledge Foundation (KKS).
The Fiber Optic Center gathers five academic and nineteen industrial partners, among them the Royal Swedish Insititute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Ericsson Network Technologies and SAAB Avitronics, covering applications in telecommunications, medical technologies, building and construction, sensing, and industrial applications.
The research program focuses on development of novel fiber optic technologies, such as specialty fibers, and demonstrating new principles using fiber optics, such as nano-second switching, microfluidics in hole fibers or efficient temperature sensing.
The technologies from the research program are further enhanced in the applied program where the development projects directly aim at industrial value and growth. Examples of applied projects are fiber based sensor systems for industrial applications, fiber lasers, and fiber optic radar applications.
