Location
Nyfors Teknologi AB is located 15 kilometers to the south of Stockholm, Sweden. The company is named after nearby stream which has been used as a source of power for industrial production from late medieval times up until the last century.
With a height of fall of about five meters, the Nyfors rapids are among the largest and most accessible ones in this part of Sweden. In the early 16th century, an iron works was established on this site. Later other industries followed, such as a gun powder manufacturing plant for the Swedish army, spinning mills and a pulp and paper production plant, thus making Nyfors an important early modern industrial center of Stockholm.
Today, all industrial activities at the Nyfors stream have ceased. As a part of the Tyresta nature preserve the rapids now provide a home to some rare species of birds.
